  • WNCC men capture ninth win of season

    The Western Nebraska Community College men’s basketball team led from start to finish, but had to fight off comebacks from Eastern Wyoming College all night long in registering an 82-69 win Monday night at Cougar Palace. Teddy Allen led the Cougars with a double-double of 34 points and 10 rebounds, but more importantly was 14 of 15 from the charity stripe.
  • Allen, Strawbridge combine for 59 in win over Sheridan

                    Teddy Allen and Kenny Strawbridge combined for 59 points and the Western Nebraska Community College men’s basketball team led from start to finish in picking up their eighth win of the season Tuesday night at Cougar Palace.                 WNCC opened the game with a 9-0 run and never trailed in the first half in leading 51-44 at halftime. There were just two lead changes and two ties in the contest.                 Allen, who finished with 38 points and nine rebounds, said they played alright.
  • WNCC dunks past Minnesota Prep 123-96

    The Western Nebraska Community College men’s basketball team had over 10 dunks and shot 72 percent from the field in registering a 123-96 win over the Minnesota Prep Academy on the second day of the Thanksgiving Classic at Cougar Palace on Saturday. WNCC had four players hit double digits in the contest and dished out 27 assists in moving to 7-5 on the season.
  • WNCC men earn win over Rainy River

    The Western Nebraska Community College men’s basketball team received 33 points from Teddy Allen the Cougars survived Rainy River Community College 101-87 on the first day of the Thanksgiving Classic. The first game saw Trinidad State Junior College register a 107-65 win over the Minnesota Prep Academy. Action in the Thanksgiving Classic will continue Saturday at noon when Rainy River faces Trinidad, while Minnesota Prep will battle WNCC at 2 p.m.
  • WNCC men shoot past Rexburg
    November 24, 2019
    The Western Nebraska Community College men’s basketball team shot 61 percent and put five players in double figures in rolling to a 97-79 win over Rexburg United Saturday afternoon at Cougar Palace. The Cougars had a balanced offensive output, burying eight treys while dishing out 24 assists in evening their record at 5-5 with the win.
  • WNCC men fall to Williston
    November 23, 2019
    The Western Nebraska Community College men’s basketball team competed with Williston State College for much of the contest, but in the end, the Tetons had four players score over 20 points in registering a 94-82 win Friday night at Cougar Palace. WNCC will look to get back on track Saturday afternoon as the Cougars host Rexburg United at 4 p.m. Rexburg fell to Northeastern Junior College in the first game Friday 81-58.
  • WNCC set to host classic Friday and Saturday

    It will be a big weekend of games at Western Nebraska Community College this weekend with some top teams invade Cougar Palace for three games on Friday and Saturday. There will be one women’s game both days while there will be two men’s contests. Friday’s action begins at 3:30 p.m. when Northeastern Junior College, who is 5-0 on the season, will face Rexburg United. The 5:30 p.m. contest will pit the Eastern Wyoming College Lancer women against Williston State with the nightcap at 7:30 p.m. having the WNCC Cougars taking on Williston State College.
  • WNCC basketball signs Hastings’ Connor Creech

    Connor Creech’s basketball background runs deep in his family. His father, Lance, coached Hastings College men’s basketball and is now the Hastings High School coach. Lance Creech also coached Western Nebraska Community College head coach Cory Fehringer when he played at Hastings College. When it was time for Connor to make his college decision, the 6-foot-1 point guard picked the Cougars over schools such as Missouri Western and Wayne State. Saturday, Connor made it official in signing his letter of intent to become a Cougar.
  • No. 14 Casper edges WNCC

    In a close contest at Cougar Palace Tuesday night between the last two Region IX champions with nearly every statistical category being even, the No. 14 Casper College Thunderbirds, who won regionals last spring, got two free throws from Jalen Harris with 11.1 seconds to play to earn an 88-86 win over Western Nebraska Community College. It was a game that neither team wanted to lose as both teams played with plenty of heart and energy. Both teams shot 44 percent from the field, both teams made nine 3-pointers, and both teams made 17 free throws. The two squads also each had 42 rebounds and 21 personal fouls.
  • WNCC comes back to topple Western Wyoming

    Teddy Allen finished with a double-double of 43 points and 10 rebounds as the Western Nebraska Community College men’s basketball team put together a solid second half in rolling to a 90-83 win over Western Wyoming Community College Saturday afternoon at Cougar Palace. Allen had a big portion of the points in the win as the sophomore transfer ignited for seven 3-pointers in 33 minutes on the court. But, Allen wasn’t the only one that was stepping up on the court in lifting the Cougars to a win over a Western Wyoming team that topped the Cougars back on Nov. 1, 96-75. Saturday was a different story against a Mustang squad that shot 49 percent in the first half. The Mustangs also scored 10 of their 13 3-pointers in the first half as Western Wyoming held a 49-41 lead.
  • WNCC runs by LCCC for win behind Felton’s 25 points.

    James Felton poured in 25 points and the Western Nebraska Community College men’s basketball team made their home-opener a bright one with a 103-92 win over Laramie County Community College Tuesday night at Cougar Palace. Felton and Teddy Allen combined for 46 points on the night to lead the Cougars to their third win of the season. The win came against a scrappy LCCC squad who battled to the end.
  • WNCC men ready for home-opener Tuesday

    After five games on the road, the Western Nebraska Community College men’s basketball team will be at home for the first time to face Laramie County Community College on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 6 p.m. at Cougar Palace. Tuesday’s home-opener is a stretch of five straight home contests and nine homes out of 10 through the rest of the semester.
  • WNCC men fall short against No. 13 Salt Lake CC

    SALT LAKE CITY – The Western Nebraska Community College men’s basketball team fought tooth and nail to the No. 13 Salt Lake Community College Bruins Saturday only to come up short 101-92 in the Region 9/18 Challenge at Salt Lake City, Utah. WNCC head coach Cory Fehringer said he was proud of his team for the fight they showed in battling like they did. “I am proud of our team for continuing to compete on a rough road trip. Five games in nine days at three different locations is a task for any college program,” he said. “Our team is a long ways from a finished product, and the most valuable lessons we can learn are being tested by mistakes we pay for in the loss column.”
  • WNCC men fall to CSI on last-second shot

    SALT LAKE CITY – The Western Nebraska Community College and College of Southern Idaho men’s basketball team battled in a contest that wasn’t settled until the last second of the contest when the Golden Eagles sank a ¾ shot trey for a 60-57 win Friday night in Region 9/18 Challenge in Salt Lake City, Utah. Both teams were pretty equal throughout the night. WNCC shot 37 percent from the field while making seven treys, while CSI was 38 percent from the field with eight treys.
  • Big second half propels WNCC over Sheridan

    SHERIDAN, Wyo. – The Western Nebraska Community College men’s basketball team used a strong second half in rolling to an 84-72 win over Sheridan College Tuesday night in Sheridan, Wyoming. WNCC trailed 33-24 at halftime and then opened the second half on a 17-0 run to grab a 41-33 lead and never relinquished the lead again in posting their second win of the season.

    ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. – The Western Nebraska Community College men’s basketball team received 38 points from Teddy Allen, but it wasn’t enough as Western Wyoming Community College outscored the Cougars 50-31 in the second half to register a 96-77 win in Rock Springs, Wyoming. WNCC will look for that first win on Saturday when they face Central Wyoming College at noon in the Western Wyoming Classic.

    ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. – The Western Nebraska Community College men’s basketball team put five players in double figures in capturing their first win of the season with a 100-86 win over Central Wyoming College in Rock Springs, Wyoming, Saturday afternoon. Teddy Allen led the way with 33 points with three 3-pointers to lead the Cougars. The Cougars also received 19 points from Kenny Strawbridge followed by 11 from Kalen Williams, and 10 points each from Jordan Smith and James Felton.
  • WNCC men’s basketball opens season this weekend

    The Western Nebraska Community College men’s basketball team will sport a young team when they open the season this weekend on the road. WNCC will open the season this weekend with a pair of games in Rock Springs, Wyoming, facing Western Wyoming Community College on Friday and Central Wyoming College on Saturday.
