BEATRICE – The Western Nebraska Community College baseball team dropped an Empire Conference doubleheader to Southeast Community College Friday in Beatrice.

WNCC managed just two hits in the opener, falling 11-1 in five innings. The second game saw the Cougars score three late runs, but Southeast never trailed in earning the 8-3 win.

Southeast and WNCC are now tied for third in the conference standings at 11-9, trailing McCook (15-3) and Northeastern Junior College (13-3). WNCC will be back in action Thursday when they host McCook for a doubleheader at Cleveland Field.

The first game saw WNCC get behind early as Southeast plated runs in all four innings they batted. The Bobcats led 9-0 before the Cougars plated their lone run in the fourth when Catcher Gladysh drew a walk and scored on a two-out double by Cooper Wilson.

Southeast answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame for the 11-1 run-rule win.

WNCC's only two hits came from a single by Vaughn Wilson and a double by Cooper Wilson.

The second contest was a good pitcher's duel early, with neither team scoring a run until Southeast pushed across one in the fourth and three in the fifth. WNCC cut the deficit to 4-3 with all three runs scored on with three in the seventh to make it 4-3.

The seventh inning rally began with a single by Jude Russell. WNCC then loaded the bases on free passes, and all three runs scored on two walks and a hit batsman.

Southeast responded with two runs in both the seventh and eighth innings to extend the lead to 8-3.

WNCC finished with seven hits in the contest, led by Vaughn Wilson's 3‑for‑4 performance with a run scored. Daniel Chavez added two hits.
