MCCOOK – The Western Nebraska Community College softball team couldn't get the offense going in a doubleheader against No. 25 McCook Community College Friday in McCook.

The first game saw the Cougars score first, but then allowed nine runs and McCook went on to claim the 13-1 win. The second game saw Hannah Schneider toss five innings of no-hit ball as the Indians won 8-0 in a game that was competitive despite the score on the scoreboard.

The two teams will be back in action Sunday when McCook comes to Volunteer Field for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.

The second game was closer on the scoreboard, but the Cougars couldn't get anything going offensively. The Cougars managed just one baserunner in the contest as Ellie Soper reached on an error in the fifth inning.

The Cougars also kept McCook's offense at bay, allowing just eight runs. McCook scored two in the first and two in the third for a 4-0 lead. The Indians added a single run in the fourth and then ended the game with three runs in the fifth.

The first game saw WNCC get on the scoreboard first with a run in the first. Tina Horton walked and scored on a 2-out single by Jasmine Castro.

That was it as McCook came back with nine runs in the bottom of the inning scoring seven with no outs to lead 9-1. The game settled down after that as neither team scored in the second and third. McCook added four in the fourth. WNCC tried coming back in the fifth as Adi Duke singled and then Tori Travers had a 2-out single, but that was all they managed as McCook got the win.

WNCC had four hits in the contest, all singles from four different players.
