LA JUNTA, Colo. – The 20th-ranked Western Nebraska Community College women's basketball team saw it's 11-game win streak snapped 68-58 to Otero Junior College Saturday afternoon at La Junta, Colorado, in a South Division contest.
The loss drops the Cougars to 18-3 on the season and 7-1 in South play. WNCC is now tied with McCook for the South Division lead after McCook rolled past Lamar 111-86 on Saturday. WNCC will travel to McCook on Wednesday for a key South Division showdown. McCook is now 20-2 on the season.
The Cougars shot just 33 percent from the field in the contest.
WNCC even out-rebounded Otero 40-34 and made more 3-pointers (five to Otero's four) in the contest. The difference was turnovers, where WNCC had 18 to Otero's 11.
Otero's big stars of the game came from Macy Myers with 22 points and Shelby Patterson with 17. The two combined for 39 of the team's 68 points.
WNCC had just one player in double figures. Bree Paulson led the way with 15 points, including three 3-pointers.
Ozge Yarga also tallied nine points for the Cougars, while Mikayla Gonzales had seven.
Other scoring for the Cougars saw Kalli Feddersen and Hannah Sparks each score five, Sladjana Rakovic and Myriam Garcia each with four, Zeynep Canbaz with six, and Rylee Ward with three.
The Cougars will next be in action Tuesday when they travel to Hasting College junior varsity before Wednesday's contest at McCook.
