GILLETTE, Wyo. – The Western Nebraska Community College women's basketball team couldn't make enough shots in falling to No. 12 College of Southern Idaho 71-47 to wrap up the Holiday Inn Express Invitational in Gillette, Wyoming, on Saturday.

The Cougars drop to 9-5 on the season will wrap up the first semester play when they host Gillette College Sunday afternoon at Cougar Palace. That contest is slated for a 2 p.m. start.

The difference in the game was shooting. WNCC shot just 30 percent from the field and were just 3-of-14 from the 3-point arc. CSI shot 48 percent from the field and were 3-of-13 from beyond the arc.

CSI's Savannah Stoker led all scorers with 24 points on 11-of-16 shooting.

WNCC placed three players in double figures, led by Celina Donyo and Veralyn Aviles each with 11 points. Juseana-Rae Delatori chipped in 10 points with six rebounds.

Rebounding was also the big difference in the game as CSI out-boarded the Cougars 52-29. Besides Delatori, Charisma Johnson and Zozefine Sipolina each had six boards.

Even with the score difference by 24 points, the contest was closer than the final margin. CSI jumped out to a 10-2 lead only to watch the Cougars slice the deficit to 14-11 on a Johnson bucket. CSI led after one quarter 20-11.

The second quarter saw WNCC to within 23-17 after back-to-back 3-pointers by Sipolina. CSI went on a 9-1 run to lead 32-18 before the Cougars closed out the half on back-to-back buckets by Delatori. CSI led at intermission 32-22.

After the break, WNCC got the deficit to single digits a couple times, including nine points at 36-27. CSI went on a 14-3 run to lead 50-30. WNCC didn't quit as they score the final six points of the third period to trail 50-36.

The fourth quarter saw WNCC put some worry into the Golden Eagles as they opened the fourth in trailing 51-40. In the meantime, the Cougar defense was playing tough as they held CSI without a bucket until with 7:44 to play. CSI had a 9-0 run to go up 60-40 and after that the two teams exchanged buckets and points for the final.
