Shayane Poirot-Allard enters her first season in leading the women's basketball team on June 1 after being the Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at Western Nebraska Community College the past three seasons.
In her three seasons at WNCC, Coach Shay has helped nine players advance to the next level (five D1, two D2, one NAIA). Last season, WNCC was a mainstay in the NJCAA Top 25 most of the year and finished the year #19 nationally. Last season, Sophomore Adelina Urtane was selected Region IX South Player of the Year, and all four Cougars were selected to the All-Region IX team. The 2024-25 squad won the award for highest team GPA at Western Nebraska and Helena Kuck was named Student-Athlete of the Year. Additionally, she and her teammate Katie Viera were recognized nationally as NJCAA Academic All-Americans.
Coach Shay also played on the 2022 Cougar team that made it to the Final Four of the national tournament and then went on to play at Western Carolina for one year before returning to WNCC as an assistant coach.

Before coming to the United States, Coach Shay played three years with professional teams in France. She played for Nice (LF2), Calais (LF2), and Saint-Amand-Les-Eaux (LFB). Coach Shay played for WNCC in 2021-2022 as part of a National Tournament Final Four team. After a first successful season in the U.S, the French native transferred to Division 1 school Western Carolina University, where she was the starting point guard.
Shayane graduated from WNCC with her associate degree and earned her bachelor’s in psychology from Chadron State College. Shayane is engaged to her partner, Jasmine McAliley.
