DALLAS – The Western Nebraska Community College men's basketball team made the trip to Dallas for the Mitchell/Mullins Jamboree a successful one, finishing the 2-day event with a 6-0 mark.
The Cougars won three games on Friday, topping New Mexico Junior College, Angelina College, and Cedar Valley. Saturday, the Cougars were just as impressive, with some big wins.
WNCC started the day by dropping Dodge City Community College in overtime. WNCC coach Russ Beck said his team was down 17 at one point to come back to win.
"We showed heart coming back from a douible-digit deficit against Dodge City," Beck said. "We made plays down the stretch including tying the game t the end of regulation with a Chase Mason three. Then we go into overtime and beat them. We have a great group and I think they have all the pieces,"
WNCC followed that up with a 48-32 win over Northern Oklahoma-Enid before wrapping up the tournament with a 58-47 win over Independence Community College.
"I am just proud of the guys picking up three more wins today," Beck said. "It showed our grit, determination and depth. I am excited about what we learned about our team and we will continue to work hard to get better."
On Friday, WNCC beat New Mexico JC 34-32, Angeline 62-55, and Cedar Valley 49-24.
The Cougars will have another weekend of scrimmages before they open up the season Nov. 5-7 at home.
