The Western Nebraska Community College men's soccer team competed hard, but the No. 15 ranked Trinidad State Junior College team converted five goals in registering a 5-1 win in a game that didn't end until nearly 7 p.m. with light becoming rare.
The light issue, however, didn't become a factor as the Cougars fell behind the eight ball early trailing 2-0 at halftime. Otero scored its first goal in the 28th minute as Luis Cazares scored off an assist from Biska Biyombo. The lead stayed that way until 2.2 seconds left in the half as the Trojans nailed another goal from Filip Cvetinovic for the 2-0 halftime lead.
WNCC stayed fired up in the second half and sliced the lead just seven minutes into the game as Lawan Abary converted a penalty kick. A minute later, Trinidad went make up by two after Cvetinovic hit a penalty kick of his own to put the Trojans back up 3-1.
Trinidad put the game away with two more goals late as Biyombo scored both goals, the first coming with 25:01 to play and the second with 14 minutes left.
WNCC was outshot by Trinidad 16-11. WNCC had seven corner kicks to the Trojans two.
The Cougars will be back in action next weekend when they travel to face Sheridan College and Northwest College.
