WNCC men win, women fall to Sheridan

                SHERIDAN, Wyo. – The Western Nebraska Community College men's soccer team picked up a big overtime win over Sheridan College on Friday 1-0, while the Cougar women suffered a close 2-1 defeat to the Generals.

                The Cougar men and Generals were hooked up in a defensive struggle. Sheridan managed 11 shots in the game while WNCC had seven. Neither team scored through the first and second half, forcing overtime.

                It was in the overtime period that Matheus Ricardo took a free kick five minutes into the overtime period and buried it into the net for the match winner.

                WNCC finished with three corner kicks compared to just four for Sheridan. Bryant Velazquez had seven saves in net for the Cougars.

                The women's match saw the Generals vault to a 2-0 halftime lead. Sheridan scored its first goal just four minutes into the match by Sidney Burrell. Sheridan went up 2-0 in the 23rd minute on a goal by Teresa Giandonato.

                WNCC kept fighting as they sliced the lead in half in the 67th minute when Marissa Dahlvang delivered a pass to Janalynn McKay. That was all the scoring, though by either team.

                WNCC had just three shots while Sheridan had 20.

                Allison Parker finished with eight saves in net.

                The WNCC men and women will be back in action Saturday when they travel to face Northwest College in Powell, Wyoming. After that, the Cougars return home for three matches next week when they face Laramie County Community College on Wednesday, Western Wyoming on Friday, and Northeastern Junior College on Saturday.
